New Paper! “Sentinel-1 Detection of Ice Slabs on the Greenland Ice Sheet”

We have a new paper out in The Cryosphere demonstrating that Greenland’s ice slabs can be mapped from space with synthetic aperture radar. Ice slabs are multi-meter thick layers of refrozen ice that from in Greenland’s firn and lead to enhanced surface runoff and mass loss from the ice sheet. Our new work provides the most comprehensive map of ice slab extent to date and lays the groundwork for long-term monitoring of ice slab expansion with ESA’s Sentinel-1 satellites. Read more here.
